Measuring in the Grade 1 Classroom using Non-Standard Measuring Tools

Today the Grade 1 students were given the task of using just a piece of string and non-standard measuring units, such as toothpicks or cube-a-links to determine the length of 3 different snakes. They had to carefully measure a curly snake with their partner and then determine the length of that string with their toothpicks.  Here are some of their findings!

Grade 1 Social Studies-Our Changing Roles and Responsibilities

As part of our Grade 1 Social Studies Unit on Our Changing Roles and Responsibilities, we looked at how our roles change over time or because of an event.  The students were then asked to think of something that they are almost old enough to do.  Here are some of their thoughts......
